September News and Views

I can't believe it is September already with school starting and Christmas around the corner. I am amazed how fast the summer went and the summer gigs - sad to see the schedule open up a little too much but glad to have been working on some cool stuff this year!

In the NEWS column, I have a pretty major piece of big press to mention. This month a new CD I played on is coming out. I can tell this is pretty big news since I have started seeing press releases and reviews from all over the western news media! You wont likely know the band if you are an older person since it is young guy music!

WEEZER 2010 RELEASE

Weezer is a rock band, Rivers Cuomo is a crazy young writer and I played Flute on the new CD, scheduled for release this month - September 19th, 2010. The CD is called Hurley and the song I tracked was Unspoken. I played Flute jam tracks and multi-tracked a few flute pads that hit a vintage plug in to make it sound like an old keyboard track. All very cool and I can't wait to hear the finished product!!

The news has just started coming in as pre-release copies are hitting the press for review. I will be following the fun and let you know as the press comes in! I have hopes that visibility might move web stats up a bit and maybe effect sales for my CDs a bit with a younger audience.

I did a video with Rivers last year and have it here to see. Yes, I am the dude playing Flute in the cowboy hat! Pretty funny stuff....

Jermaine Dupri (JD) the Atlanta based rapper is found singing on the track and the support musicianscome from many of the young guy bands on the label. It was a pretty weird but fun day of tracking! All live to audio and video.

Here is the Clip JD Posted, recorded to and thru the Weezer live video tapping day. Can you say Janet Jackson??

Watch for more on the CD release of Hurley - Unspoken - Weezer September 2010!!

AMERICAN SMOOTH JAZZ AWARDS SHOW 2010

Also in the press - the American Smooth Jazz Awards show is coming in October 2010. The location was moved to Chicago and I was nominated in the Gospel Jazz Category for the awards show this year. I did my best to get the word out for the internet based vote and hope to hear some good news on that one! I was up against some huge names in the business so I don't expect to win by any landslide. I hope to have competed well and, of course, would love to find out I did win it. But being Nominated in 2010 is awesome news in and of itself! Thanks to the many that got out and voted!! October will be here soon enough! Fingers crossed.......

ONLINE AND WEBSITES

This time of year is always big for my sites! Saxophone Students are pouring back into schools and realizing they forgot how to finger the high notes or maybe had planned on practicing Altissimo all summer and kinda missed the opportunity. That leaves kids all over the country and world online looking for information and help! This creates a nice pile of traffic and CD sales online. Every summer traffic drops off and every fall it picks up to a fevered pace as Christmas searches push the numbers to all time highs every December!

So we are in the bump zone and I love it! You Tube Video Clips have been averaging 2400 views a day and we are screaming toward a huge landmark number - WE WILL HIT 1 MILLION Saxophone Videos viewed very soon and that is amazing! Comedy videos, cats playing piano, kids saying funny things, people getting hurt - all HUGE on You Tube!! Try and promote nice quality Saxophone Videos on You Tube and it is a lot more work to say the least! I don't fill my clips with models and nearly naked women to increase the views either. My clips are live music or nature settings - good quality family oriented with music I have recorded and love! 51 clips are online now and 953,000 is where the counter is at today! One other note - this is only YouTube views and these videos are all over the web, on socials and videos services with high numbers that are not apart of the YouTube numbers!

Sax Player life

Well - that is the cooler stuff. What is pressing is bookkeeping for 2009 to get the taxes in before October 15th - the REAL TAX DEADLINE. If you are a musician you already know that. All my friends are doing taxes right now! You can only put off the inevitable for so long! I posted for an hour but have to get back to it now. Thanks for reading and excuse the distance to the next post. If I am being a good boy it should be a week or 2. If I am avoiding taxes, it will be often. Wish me well........

A FEW REVIEWS I JUST PULLED QUOTES FROM FOR WEEZER HURLY CD - UNSPOKEN featuring Greg Vail on Flutes!

The song "Unspoken" features a cameo from smooth-jazz saxophonist Greg Vail (on flute, no less) - Billboard CD reviews on Reuters UK 9/3!

""Unspoken" begins with Cuomo sounding a decade younger, "dreaming of a chance to make it right" over an acoustic guitar, with contemporary jazz musician Greg Vail contributing flourishes on the flute (seriously)" - AP Alt Press Review - Weezer Hurley

“Unspoken” which sounds like something out of ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ is an awesome track that sees Weezer blend together old and new, quite cleverly I might add. It’s simply charming and absolutely smart. - CD Reviews, Frantik News
