March busy work

If you read the last post you know that work has slowed a bit for me in March. I have been very busy hitting clubs and talking to players for ideas and possible work. So far so good! A few things have booked and things are picking up!

One thing I end up doing during gig slow downs is more online web work. I have the skills since I learned them for my personal sites and promotion and when I have time, I work for others helping with search engine stuff, You Tube, Face Book, My Space, web design and whatever else is needed.

I have been editing video and set up a nice page for The Trust Factor Show on You Tube. I have 12 videos loaded so far and this legal Q&A show is seeing more calls coming in from the visibility. I also have a wedding minister friend that we are working on search engine stuff and soon setting up Face Book, My Space and You Tube pages to increase overall traffic and exposure!

As always, I am reading tons! I have a few business books I am pouring thru right now on management, leadership and potential! I also am following closely, all the news and blogs on the music business and have been reworking my online strategies for 2009. Honestly, so far in 2009 I have been just following thru with the 2008 plans and that has been great.

A year ago there was no You Tube, No Face Book, No Linkedin, No BandMix, No Fickr, No iLike, No Twitter, No Face Book Pages, No You Tube Christmas, No lots of stuff. The latest of these additions have been Fickr and Linkedin. In 2009 the focus has to be where the Music Business is headed and living there. With 210 URLs available to me, site plans and business focus is all to be thought thru yet again. Time is a limited commodity and focus ends up viewing very important.

The cool thing about working in other industries online is taking what I know from Music and applying that, AND taking a different view of the web to find other things that apply TO music. To be a lifetime learner - my heart, goal and desire!

On the Music front - the exciting new thing for me has been online session work. It makes it really easy to share what I can do when I have all the last few CDs woodwinds all tracked on the gear I have right now. You like that sound. You can get that sound easy. Benn there done that!

In the last little bit, the calls have come from more distant and interesting places! Armenia last week and Finland this week. How cool is that! I love recording and totally dig the fact I can do sessions clear around the world from my house. I see this as a great new opportunity and really see it growing into a busy space over the next 24 months. Anyone anywhere can have Greg Vail on Sax or Flute on there CD!

So the quick post is way too long and I have to get to Saddleback for Services and Coto for a club gig!

Peace,

greg vail sax
