Weezer Rivers Cuomo and Rapper Jermaine Dupri Video
The Video is out as of today. Weezer singer Rivers Cuomo and Jermaine Dupri on a new track - I Can't Stop, Partying Partying!
We tracked the video just last Thursday and it was edited and posted today - pretty amazing, but it is in the newer style of reality TV, informal and not a big high tech production with Lucas special effects and story lives. This clip is just hanging in the studio, screwing around with a track Rivers wrote and having some fun with it.
AS for me; I have no idea how I ended up on this, think Flute was an odd call, but think the country clothing was even odder (if indeed odder is a word). When I got the call from Tim Davis, he told me I would be told what they were looking for and he knew I would do it well. When I asked Rivers what he wanted, he said to just play around and have fun. Not the direction I was hoping for, but an easy call since he didn't seem to care as long as it worked well. So I just played a few lines behind the vocals, fills and then a more percussive approach was used on the Chorus since there was no drums. I thought it worked out pretty good, and I got really good feedback after we finished. It was fun!!
Here's the finished Video - I Can't Stop Partying by Rivers Cuomo with Guest Jermaine Dupri
UPDATE - The Video below seems to be showing just a portion of the viewable space. I wanted to include the link to the video on StereoGum, so you can see all of it. Could just be my browser, but I thought the link to the site would be a good idea. You can also see video comments and comment yourself if you'd like too on the Weezer page. The Link.
'... and wicked Flautist" Greg Vail - HA! (from the Weezer Blog)
CHECK OUT THE SESSION PICTURES HERE really funny pics - includes a picture of Greg Vail with that country stuff on! The description for the video reads -
ABOUT RIVERS CUOMO
Usually
the vibe in Decomposed is low key and fairly serious. That is, unless a
Rivers runs through it. And after a year full of hootenannies, incongruous collaborations, and breaking world records, this is surprising absolutely nobody. A few weeks ago he put out a call
for a pianist and an a cappella group to help decompose some tunes for
us. Along with those folks, he brought a pretty enthusiastic
up-and-comer named Jermaine Dupri (!). Throw in a cowboy flutist,Alone II tunes, and a Beach Boys cover, and you have a Rivers-sized holiday spectacle.
The session unfolds in three parts: first there's "I Was Scared," on
which Cuomo's joined by his hand-selected pianist Sonia and five
members of the Dartmouth Aires, an a cappella group from Dartmouth
College. For the Beach Boys' "Don't Worry Baby," Rivers goes sans piano
and full-on a cappella with the Dartmouth quintet on backing harmonies.
And then there's the grand jam of "Can't Stop Partying," which features
five acoustic guitarists and three percussionists (from bands Crash
Kings, Alkaline Trio, Yellowcard, Melee, Reeve Oliver and Ozma),
big-hatted flutist Greg Vail, and Mr. Dupri. Fresh for '08.
