Think on these things...

This topic is such a hot bed of passion for me since I always considered myself a realist and know that was just me being a pessimist in denial! When it comes to topics of thinking positive, it can feel like wishful thinking and rather foolish to me. But, a little fine tuning and purpose seems to bring these issues into better focus for this old sax player.

You see, it is not just a matter of denying the hardships we all face, but a focus on the blessings that we all experience in life. It is then, more a matter of our blessings defining who we are, and our hardships keeping us in check, rather than the other way around.

In John Maxwell's book, Make Today Count, he describes the process in an understandable light. "Thinking about the good things helps us to be grateful. Remaining grateful helps us to have a more positive attitude. And having a positive attitude prompts us to think about the good rather than the bad. It's a positive cycle that helps fuel itself."

That makes sense to me. It follows a path that I can see the same conclusion that Maxwell draws. This concept is very balanced in that it does not ignore the bad, but the choice is to focus on the good.

Amy Vanderbilt is quoted as saying, "When we learn to give thanks, we are learning to concentrate not on bad things, but on the good things in our lives." It is a matter of focus. I like that.

In the Bible there is a great list of things to try and concentrate on. It's in the book of Philippians 4:8

"Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things."

One other concept for you-all that is very related - If it's good enough to call a New Years Resolution, it's good enough to start today.

Think about it. If it is a great idea - WHY WAIT?

I started last month to bring more emotional health into my daily regime. I continue to add more ideas and try new things for the good I feel these things will bring. And I did not make a list and post it on January first! That would be silly if I already know what I'm supposed to be doing...

Be blessed and look for the MANY THINGS you have to be grateful for, right now! Make this a great Christmas Season, full of love, gratitude and thanksgiving!
