I swear I started this pearls of wisdom thing last week. I now can't find anything on my b log on it so I will start it again!

I have been reading more than ever before, and have found myself sharing many of these gems with friends as I go thru my day. Why does it take a friend saying, "You should post some of these" to get me there???

PEARLS and WISDOM

The idea will be sharing great books, ideas and stories from the healthy side of education, experience and growth. What an idea!  I like it!

From John Maxwell's little book - Make Today Count
quotes and thoughts

A working definition of Values might be - Admirable character qualities based on truth and your highest ideals. They should represent the core of your being, and be worthy to live for and die for.

In leadership, the question is whether you are a people pleaser and census taker, leading people according to popular opinion, or whether you have the ability to do the right thing, even if it is not popular and might cost you for making that decision.

John Maxwell, in his book 'Make Today Count' says, "The gap between knowing and doing in significantly greater than the gap between ignorance and knowledge. A person who identifies his values but does not practice them ... has no credibility. In business, the result is that the person loses his job. In life, the person loses his integrity."

"Discrepancies between values and practices create chaos in a person's life. If you talk your values but neglect to walk them, then you will continually undermine your integrity and credibility. And that will happen even if you are unaware of your behavior and are not doing it intentionally."

"Successful people do what's right no matter how they feel about it (or what it might cost them). They don't expect to be able to feel their way into acting. The act first and then hope that their feelings will follow suit."
Ben Franklin used to get up in the morning and ask himself, "What good will I do today?" When he went to bed he asked himself, "What good did I do today?" This is practicing values in action!

I know a few people that are great at knowing and practicing there good values. I would have to confess - work in progress. I can give good testimony about the chaos issues.
