Been a bit too busy...
Hey web people - Greg Vail checkin' in for a quick update. I have been really busy dealing with Taxes for 2007. The real deadline is October 15th and I am pressed right to the line here.
Taxes are what I call it - but I have been told I don't do taxes, I do forensic accounting and hand the figures to a CPA and she does taxes. So, if this is correct, and I have been wrong many times today; I am working on accounting for 2007 and have to get the figures in next week or I am in big trouble. SO, I am working away and hope to stay out of BIG trouble, until 2008 taxes are late...
With that in mind, I have not been being much of a musician the past few weeks. I have been being a bookkeeping fool! I hope to have it all done by my appointment next week and get back to the stuff that matters like music, my kids and friends and CDs and writing and and and...
Today I had a wedding job that musicians call casuals. It was up in Hollywood and was really fun. It is odd to say that, at least feels odd. In the old days the Casuals where the lame work but the pay was too good to pass up. These days, little is going on in clubs or big shows. The great players are actually available and just glad to have a job. Many jobs are very small bands now, but many of these parties I play can be, like tonight, a 6 piece band, and often times this leader has 3 or 4 more horns on the job. Last gig we had I played classical flute for the ceremony with 2 great classical Guitar players, String Bass and me on Flute. It was really challenging and was recorded professionally for the bride to give CDs out as gifts to guests at the wedding. That meant rehearsals and it was all real classical stuff, pretty out of my league but I did my best.
Now where else are you going to get a call like that these days? It was really fun. I then played in a Jazz Trio for the cocktail set; Piano, String Bass and Tenor, doing jazz standards. It was a really great trio. Then off to the reception area with a 6 piece band and it was totally musical, sounded great and we where treated like stars. This was a wedding! All very strange if you ask me.
Tonight the gig was just the reception, but the same leader boss guy and we had an amazing night of music and hang. Everyone on the stage was amazing! The keyboard guy and I had maybe worked together years ago, but neither of us could figure out where. The guitar player I see twice a year. This was not a real regular band. But it was top notched, great playing all night.
So I am saying it to the world wide web - I had a wedding tonight that was better music than I have played live in ages, probably since my last wedding, and I don't care if it doesn't sound cool to say!! HA!
Back home now and getting ready to crash since we are doing horn section with the band at Church in the morning and I have to be there on time... sucks... having to be on time (because it is early for a night owl like me )
I have been ragging on My Space about the new Music Player that is full of bugs and not working very well. I hit that blog and finished my rantings and I'm done now -- better!
I have been busy enough that checking all the sites is not possible. Tonight I did look at some of the numbers and I love the fact the You Tube stuff is doing so well. I started putting up sax video 5 months ago and just saw the total plays # hit over 40,000 without me noticing until tonight. It was almost 41,000 tonight - I love that!
I also love the new Stats thing they have cuz you can see all kinds of information about people who watched your videos. Male or Female, Ages, what they searched, all kinds of interesting stuff. I discovered the search results on You Tube really like my videso! I have the top 3 returns on You Tube Search tonight for 'smooth jazz sax players' and 2 of the top 3 returns for 'gospel sax players'. That rocks! I love getting music out there that I believe in and seeing it findable and enjoyed!!
Al the Social links are in the right column. Be my friend! Visit the Social pages when you get a chance. AND PLEASE - IF YOU ARE ON A SOCIAL NETWORK THAT YOU REALLY LIKE AND DONT SEE ME ON IT - LET ME KNOW ABOUT IT SO I CAN CHECK IT OUT!
Thanks to the many dear friends that have gone thru images from the latest photo shoot and sent there suggestions for album art and promo materials! I sooooooooo appreciate you! Your insight, opinion and participation! I can't do this all by myself, and I have a growing team of wonderful people that are contributing and I love that!!!!
Thanks so much............
Gotta get to sleep and to Church in a few hours.
Blessings,
Greg Vail Sax
