Recording Fun
What a crazy week. It has been a thousand degrees and the gear has been acting up like crazy. I started the week in tax hell. Most musicians and CPAs know that October 15th is the real tax day. A double extension takes you to October 15th. It seems like I am always filling for the extensions and most my friends do the same because they are all musicians and wait as long as they can too.
So, 2 16 hour days on taxes - Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday was supposed to be recording day to finish the Mars Lasar tracks sitting on my to do list. I turned the computer on and ended up spending an entire day trying to get a track to actually play in ProTools. By the time I was done, I had searched the DigiDesign Helps dozens of times, read up on Hyperthreading, defragged a few times with both Windows and Norton Defrag, spent more time on the DigiDesign helps checking error messages, ran more utilities, restarted dozens of times, went into the bios to check the Hyperthreading thing, and finally, got a session to play and record.
That was Wednesday - Friday. Now it is Saturday morning. I started the system and was ready to record. It would not record. I kept watching the record light flicker off and see the transport read pause. I was hitting record and it was changing to Pause. I have been back on the helps, researching online and have wasted another 3 hours so far today with nothing to show for it.
System Mechanic has been running for an hour and I hope I can get to some point where I can actually record these tracks and sent them. Add power outages yesterday and you have a story that looks like I am on vacation and stringing this poor client on with excuses.
So you want to be a Sax Player in 2007? I thought I did too...
