This has been a very hard last few days.
An idol and musical mentor has passed - Michael Brecker died at 57, yesterday in New York. No single saxophonist has had a greater impact in the last 20-30 years. For me - Michael was the best sax player in the world, the entire time I played the saxophone. I have listened to Brecker more than any other musician in my life. He was recorded on over 900 records and cds over an extensive and adventurous career that took the saxophone to new places and inspired musicians all over the world. He will be greatly missed!
In addition - I was hoping to hear about an order of new saxes today and that is not looking very good. I have the possibility of loosing a lot of money and I am pretty stressed about this. Today was shipment day. No email or call all day - bummer.
On the good side -
EWI - Electronic Wind Instrument
The new EWI is amazing! I had it out at Church this weekend and it was a big hit. I also got the Yamaha VL70m with Matt's (Patchmanmusic.com) custom sounds loaded via the Turbo Chip. Very cool! I had the Cello and Penny Whistle patches featured during the services and it was totally awesome! Great work Matt!!
NAMM SHOW 2007
The Yamaha show is this week and I am very excited about working with Earth, Wind and Fire, among many other cool names! I love the NAMM Show Concerts and am very grateful to Yamaha for including me on the last few!
Gerber Mouthpiece Update -
The Gerber Mouthpieces have been delivered! Finally, a happy ending to a long wait.
Reprint from SaxOnTheWeb -
Johannes finally got the mouthpieces sent to my Korean
friends. I had to get involved when I heard there story. I emailed Gerber,
worked with him and encouraged J. to finish the backlog.
Johannes is a good man and does amazing work. I have always
said that. What needed work was a more reasonable work load and schedule, and
better customer service - returning emails and keeping clients up to date.
Johannes emailed me updates, and even sent pictures and sound
clips of him playing the mouthpieces to hear. He explained that 6 customers had
been waiting for a very long time and that he is now caught up 100%.
I know that Lee received his MPC and the friend of Lee's
just got his in Korea.
I also see that others have been getting long standing orders shipped.
This makes me very happy indeed. J Gerber is amazing. I pray
he can regain the trust of the Saxophone Community with continued success in
realistic scheduling and personal contact. With the changes I have seen in the
past 3 months, I know I would be willing to try him out again.
Thanks to Gerber for fulfilling his commitments and a happy
ending to this story.
Peace out -
