What's going on with the recordings???
I have been totally buried!
I did the Church services this past weekend and my music director asked me when he could get the new Gospel Truth Revisited CD and that he wanted it for the upcoming Saddleback Pastors Conference in 2 weeks. I said cool and went home and started freaking.
I had done orchestration on 2 tunes 2 months ago, but never got to the next step. I had not heard anything about being apart of the Conference and had been working on the new disc - traditional hymns gone jazz.
Well, I hit it hard first thing Monday AM. I have fought my computer hardware and software and been functioning on very little sleep for the past week.
Monday I got nothing more done than finding the existing tracks, then finding the tracks without vocals and getting them loaded and lined up. Tuesday I got Sax on the first tune, then Wednesday tune 2 and Thursday tune 3. I bought and loaded 2 gigs of new ram in the computer, had to borrow a loose burner and have had to run Norton and windows defrag many times to stay up and working.
the song sequence for the disc has been worked out. I have the art work almost done thanks to Shannon Kennedy and it looks great! I have printer and Manufacturing lined up on a very tight schedule. I have mixes to check in the AM and mastering will go outside if possible since I have done everything else myself and feel too close to it right now.
I have the permissions for pictures and tracks but will need to get the song licenses paid this weekend. If all goes well, these tracks will go to the plant Monday AM, mixed and Mastered. The art work should go FTP to the printer in the morning. When the art is ready I have to run it to the plant to avoid as many days of a rush charge as possible.
Product is scheduled for Tuesday morning the 16th of MAY. ...if all goes well.
A quick reminder - this CD is the Gospel Truth, reworked for Churches and catered to Saddleback Church. The original CD had 1 secular song and it ended up making the CD a good disc to add songs off of, but not one to just put in and play all day from top to bottom. I decided to re-release it with 3 great, new tracks from Saddleback personal.
The purpose driven movement has had a theme song written by my good friend Alva Copeland - Reach One More. The track I chose was from a live Worship gathering in Washington DC last year and Tom Brooks did an amazing job putting it together. I was very excited when I heard the track and now I have the Sax all over it and it sounds great! The other 2 songs came from my buddy and Worship leader at Saddleback Church, Rick Muchow. Now these are not songs he wrote, but his son. Brandon is 18 and is leading Worship at the first Saddleback Church satellite Church down is San Clemente CA. These songs smoke! I added a ton of Orchestra to the tracks with my EWI - Electronic Wind Instrument - tracking via midi, strings and brass lines. All lines are performance style with human touch all over them. Each string part, each brass instrument, all tracked like a player, line by line. The feel and sound is really pretty amazing.
So, Bobby and I have not seen each other for a week and the new Hymns CD is on the back burner for a minute. Gospel Truth, Revisited will be available in 2 weeks online, and then back to the Reason Sequences for the new, for real, new CD to be released later in 06.
For now. I'm off to bed and hoping Wally Grant calls in the morning so I can deliver these mixes for mastering. If not, it's gonna be all me baby.
Peace out,
Greg
